The Robeson County Health Department conducts classes on a variety of health-oriented topics. Classes are available at the agency and others are available in various community settings.
In House Classes
-Breast feeding
Women enrolled in our breastfeeding class learn the many benefits of breastfeeding. Instructors are available to answer questions on topics such as positioning, storage, pumping, etc.
Class Schedule:
Every Monday at 9:45 am in Spanish and 11:45 am in English.
- Car Seat Safety
Car Seat Safety classes are available to train parents and caregivers in purchasing and installing (age, weight and height) appropriate child safety restraints. Classes are conducted one on one by a certified child passenger safety technician. An appointment is necessary.
- Diabetes Class
The ADA certified Diabetes class is designed for Maternity patients diagnosed with gestational diabetes. A registered nurse and dietician provide the patient with the necessary education to help control their blood sugar during and after pregnancy. Appointments are made through the Maternal Health program.
- Food Handling Course
This course is designed for all food service employees and is recommended by the Robeson County Board of Health. This course provides training in basic concepts of good food handling practices. Upon completion of the course, the student must pass a written exam. The cost of the class is $5.00 per person.

The class will be offered January 8, March 12, May 14 (Spanish Only), July 9, September 10, and November 12 at the Robeson County Health Department. Please arrive at 12:45pm to register. Call (910) 272-6560 for information.
Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby
Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby seeks to educate mothers on what to expect during their prenatal and postpartum period. Prenatal education covers a wide range of topics including scope of care, signs and symptoms to report, health maintenance practices, plans for delivery, and postpartum instructions. All participants receive a welcome packet and those who continue their prenatal care at the Robeson County Health Department’s Maternity Clinic are eligible to purchase an infant carrier for $20.
Mondays at 8:45 a.m. in Spanish and 10:45 a.m. in English – New Maternity patients must attend Healthy Mom Healthy Baby and are scheduled through the Maternity Clinic.
- Family Planning at WIC sites
The Family Planning class seeks to educate women on the health benefits of planning and spacing of their children. In addition, patients receive information on contraceptive methods, signs and symptoms of sexually transmitted infections, immunizations and breast self-exam. - Family Planning at UNC Pembroke
Students attending the University of North Carolina at Pembroke may receive family planning services at the Student Health Center. All new Family Planning patients seeking free or low-cost birth control must attend the required Family Planning class.
Upon completion of the class, an appointment may be obtained for an exam and birth control method. These services are also conveniently provided by the Robeson County Health Department.

- Family Planning at Robeson Community College
Students attending Robeson Community College may receive family planning services at Robeson County Health Department. All new Family Planning patients seeking free or low-cost birth control must attend the required Family Planning information session.
Upon completion of the class, an appointment may be obtained for an exam and birth control method. the Robeson County Health Department.
Class Schedule
Sessions are held in the Fred G Williams Student Center from 11am-12pm an assigned dates. A calendar of sessions dates are available throughout the building or in the counseling office. Call (910)737-5007 for more information.
