Deputy Registrar LaDonna Gay (910) 671-3457
The Health Director serves as the local registrar for all births, deaths and fetal deaths occurring in Robeson County as well as Burial Transit Permits and Disinterment/Reinterment Permits. The Deputy Registrar receives and processes these certificates and makes corrections as necessary. It is the responsibility of the Deputy Registrar to respect the privacy of involved individuals and protect their legal rights.
Funeral directors, or designees, are responsible for filing a Death Certificate after an individual’s death, while a medical facility is responsible for filing a Certificate of Live Birth for each live birth. These certificates must be filed with the Deputy Registrar within five days. Once processing these legal documents, the Deputy Registrar files a copy with the Robeson County Register of Deeds and submits the original certificate to the State Vital Records Office.
The Deputy Registrar serves as a local contact for citizens to obtain information concerning the guidelines and/or state laws as it pertains to each request. Local hospitals and funeral homes use the Deputy Registrar as a contact to obtain information concerning related procedures.
No appointments are necessary. Hours of operation are Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Friday hours are 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Certified copies of birth and death certificates may be obtained (for a fee) from the Robeson County Registrar of Deeds or the North Carolina Vital Records branch in Raleigh.
