Maternal Health
The purpose of the Maternal Health program is to reduce infant mortality and morbidity and to improve the health of women during pregnancy. Any woman in Robeson County in need of maternity medical care and health supervision is eligible to be admitted for this service. Services include assessment and management of the pregnant woman during her prenatal experience, referral to WIC and for Medicaid eligibility determination, maternity care coordination by a qualified social worker, maternal outreach services, nutrition consultation by on-site registered dieticians, smoking cessation counseling, education on infant feeding, childbirth education and parenting classes taught by a Health Educator. Prenatal supplements containing folic acid and iron are provided. Our clients who have a high-risk condition during their pregnancy are followed in our High Risk Maternity Clinic by an obstetrician. Care of our maternity clients continue after delivery with a home visit from a registered nurse and a six weeks postpartum check-up in the clinic.
