Tuberculosis Control North Carolina’s local public health departments have the primary responsibility for TB control efforts in their own county. The Robeson County Health Department TB Control Program focuses on both personal and public health. We work with other agencies and private physicians to plan effectively for the care of the person with TB disease and any other persons who have been exposed to and/or infected with TB.
Our program services involve: · case management, including providing and monitoring medication · case investigation, which helps us to determine how the patient became infected and whether the disease has spread to others · community interventions, which are steps to prevent the spread of disease and include providing and monitoring preventive treatment and evaluating disease trends community prevention measures, such as communication, coordination, education, and promoting awareness among all health care providers and the general public
Who is Eligible? · persons with suspect or active TB who reside in Robeson County persons who have been exposed to and/or infected with TB who reside in Robeson County
Cost There is no charge for these services.

Contacts or Exposures If you have been in contact with someone who is suspected or confirmed of having tuberculosis, the health department will notify you if and when you need to be evaluated.
Skin Tests TB skin testing is available on a walk-in basis and is provided through the immunization clinic. The charge for this service is $11.00. Please note that all skin tests must be read by a licensed health care professional within 48-96 hours after placement.
TB Screening Letters Screening letters are available for those individuals who have had a previous reaction to the TB skin test. Like the skin test, this service is provided through the immunization clinic. The charge for the screening letter is $11.00. Please note that the screening letter expires one year after the date of issuance.
Providers The health department is dependent upon all medical disciplines to report both suspect and confirmed diseases so that we may fulfill our mission of safeguarding the health of our community by preventing or minimizing the spread of communicable diseases.
By state law in North Carolina, any health care provider who diagnoses or suspects a case of TB must notify the county’s local health department director within 24 hours. That notification must be followed by written report.
