March is National Nutrition Month®!

Created by the American Dietetic Association, National Nutrition Month was designed to remind the public to make informed, healthy food choices and to develop healthy eating and physical activity habits. This year’s slogan is: “Nutrition From The Ground Up” which reinforces the idea that being healthy is not only about choosing the right foods but moving more to stay physically fit!

Statistics from, Eat Smart Move More NC show some startling results:

We, as one of the nutrition service provider, encourage each individual in the Robeson County can be aware of their diets and lifestyles; and start making healthy food choices and being physical active. Accordingly, the emphasis of this year’s theme is to:

  • In North Carolina, two-thirds of all adults (65.7%) are overweight or obese.
  • North Carolina ranks 5th worst in the US for childhood obesity.
  • Four of the leading 10 causes of death in the US are related to obesity.

Obesity is on the rise in the United States and is a concern for both adults and children. Healthy eating habits start when we’re young so it is important to adopt a healthy lifestyle not only for yourself, but for your children!

A great way to start adopting a healthy lifestyle is to start eating more fruits, vegetables, dairy and whole grains. This guide gives you 20 different ways to eat more of these important food groups!

Look for our calendar on display in the front lobby of the Robeson County Health Department for a month’s worth of tips about eating healthy and moving more!
